Out of more than 200 nominees, hybrid cloud develop Egnyte was awarded “Most Promising Start-Up Cloud Provider” at Cloudcor’s UP 2011 Cloud Computing Conference in Mountain View, CA. This prestigious award is utilized to recognize those who demonstrate cutting-edge understanding of and sincere appreciation for cloud technology.

For those of you who are a bit hazy on what exactly clouds are, let us do a brief review.  For anyone who has used Facebook, Twitter or Googledoc’s, you’re actually already familiar with the basis of cloud technology.  Specifically, a cloud refers to a grid of computers, all of which provide access to the same software service and data.  Thanks to the invention of the World Wide Web, the need to utilize a computer’s precious storage space on software is diminishing rapidly.  Rather, clouds allow multiple computers to access their software directly from the Internet, making data exponentially more portable and accessible.

This year it was Egnyte’s scalable hyrid technology and business-class security that really grabbed the judges’ attention.  However, they also received recognition for their smartphone and tablet compatibility.  Vineet Jain, CEO and co-founder of Egnyte stated, “We strongly believe that our industry-leading hybrid cloud technology will dramatically improve the way people work and collaborate with each other.  Since first launching in 2008, Egnyte’s HybridCloud file server has allowed more than 1 billion files to be shared.

At the same time that Egnyte was receiving kudos as a trend-setting start-up, Panda Security’s cloud-based antivirus service was also receiving recognition of it’s own from the independent lab AV-Test.org.  Testing 25 products during September and October of this year, Panda’s antivirus solution scored well across the board, and was the only solution to receive a perfect score in the area of performance and usability.  Out of 450,000 files, Panda returned only one false negative.  This is especially impressive given that other tested software averaged around a dozen incorrect detections. Panda also received the top recognition in the 2010 AV-Test ratings, making it no surprise that virtually millions of users around the world are currently relying on Panda for all their electronic file security needs.
