In an effort to support the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), Astria Solutions Group, DocStar’s parent company, will award a scholarship to a Clean Technologies ECHS talented graduating senior in 2015.
There is a growing talent shortage across the nation—according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate is 5.5% and the ratio of unemployed job seekers per job opening is 2.1, the lowest numbers we’ve seen since 2008. The statistics paint a bleaker picture for professional talent, especially STEM talent.
In fact, the amount of open STEM job openings is nearly double the amount of qualified STEM talent. Supply is not meeting demand, candidates are becoming more selective, and companies are struggling to find the skill sets they need.
Because of this troubling state of STEM, Astria Solutions Group is working diligently to promote STEM careers and help young individuals that could be major contributors to the economy and the future of American innovation.
We want to nurture high school and college students that show high potential and have an interest in the vitally important fields of science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics. That means not only connecting them with leading companies upon receiving their college degree but by offering a STEM scholarship to one future star.
The scholarship is worth UP TO $4,000 and will help pay for the college education of one student with a major in the STEM field. Only high school seniors enrolled in the Clean Tech ECHS are eligible. The deadline for receipt of the application and all requested materials is April 30, 2015.
Applicants will need to complete a brief form and submit an application packet to Lyndsey Wilcox no later than April 30, 2015. The application packet must include the following: official transcript, signed terms of the agreement, signed letter of recommendation and personal statement/essay.
